Embark on a hiking and camping trip on Quebec’s sub-Arctic tundra to discover the diverse flora, fauna and geology of this magnificent post-glacial landscape. The only thing you are sure not to see are other people!
On this autonomous hike, you can choose to travel alone to take some time for reflection, or you can travel with a group of up to 8 people to share the experience. Which direction you take, how far you hike each day, and where you setup camp each night is completely up to you! After leaving Wedge Hills Lodge and cresting the top of the ridge of George River valley, there is very little vegetation, and the open tundra makes a perfect landscape to be able to hike with ease and see for miles.
Whichever direction you decide to take, you can expect to enjoy observing many varieties of flora and bright-coloured berries, as well as the possibility of seeing wildlife such as caribou from the George River Herd, black bear, grey and Arctic wolves, fox, lemming, ptarmigan and grouse. A recent discovery of a small muskox herd has been spotted only a few kilometres from the lodge, so if your timing is right, you may have the opportunity to photograph and observe these prehistoric looking creatures. You will encounter pristine lakes, and streams from which you can fill your water bottle to quench your thirst with its icy freshness.
In the evening, sit back and relax at your private campsite, and if the sky is clear, get ready for some magnificent Northern lights shows!
